Dear friends,

We were spoiled early on this year with some wonderful warm spring weather. Easter Sunday couldn’t have been any nicer! As I write this note to you today the weather is really more typical of what we should expect for an April day. It is a little bit chilly and the rain seems to want to come and go. The old saying is probably true, “April showers bring May flowers.” But, honestly, it is hard to think about summer when it is a chilly spring day.

But your Session has been doing its homework and planning ahead for the summer. We decided that we wanted to try something new by doing something the same. We are not going to change our schedule during the months of July and August. All of our worship times will remain the same. 8:30 and 11:00 every Sunday on our Conklin Campus with the Second Sunday Celebration (our “contemporary worship” service) scheduled for 9:45 on the second Sunday of July and August. Our 9:30 service at the Broad Ave. North Chapel will remain the same.

We will move the 8:30 service into the air conditioned Chapel and the 11:00 a.m. service will remain in the sanctuary. You may notice other little changes in the worship service as well as we use the summer months to try some new ideas and options to see how you enjoy them. The Session, as well, voted to establish a task force to look at the musical options we have for worship. We will keep you posted on that as their work progresses.

I read an interesting article just this morning that declared that the Boomer generation is the last generation committed to weekly worship. I was not convinced of that by the article but I did see a lot of the issues we struggle with in the larger picture they were presenting there. Changes within the larger society challenge us to get beyond the idea of business as usual. Change is frightening but it is necessary.

Keep your leadership team in your prayers as we seek to discern how we best serve Jesus Christ in this time and place with all the gifts God has given to us.

Soli Deo Gloria – To God alone be the glory!

In Christ’s love,
